Back in the Stern Seat for Wabun 2012 !!!!

Please forgive the Wabun Blog hiatus – the readying and opening of camp each spring takes me away from timely and informative communication, but, THE BLOG IS BACK – please subscribe, as this, along with Facebook, will be Wabun’s principal means of notifying you of updates this summer.

A wonderfully dedicated and energetic staff crew came up to the island on June 11 and worked tirelessly prepping our base camp – taking canoes out of storage and canoe painting, boat launching, checking the water system, grass mowing, pruning, raking, sports equipment installations, etc.  It was a great and productive week punctuated with evening down-times together spent reminiscing, reflecting and laying out plans for 2012 - - a great week.  Oh, and practicing for the impending season softball opener with Bear Island.

Another week of full-staff orientation laid the groundwork for the launching of 2012 – much to-do with a remarkably effective blending of reviewing Wabun’s tripping techniques and empowering staff with the social-emotional sensitivities so much a part of providing a safe and supportive climate for kids stepping into new challenges and opportunities – very proud of this exemplary training program, please inquire if you are interested in learning more.

The campers were met in Toronto by the squadron of Wabun chaperones who accompanied them to Temagami on June 26th.  So, here we are – having just crossed the threshold into our 80th season – welcome and welcome back.  Please see my letter to Wabun Families that is on our website.

The Crees returned triumphantly, joyously, and full of themselves from their first trip yesterday, and the Mattawa and Algonquins came in to join the revelry this morning.  We will let you know via a Blog posting of new photos capturing their times.
